INTRODUCTION
Jamaica is a island country located in the Caribbean. Jamaica is known as the birthplace of Reggae. Capital city of Jamaica is Kingston. It's parliamentary democracy.
Symbols and it's significance .
Flag-
The legislative committee agreed that the Jamaican flag should have the colors black yellow and green. These stood for the difficulty of the nation, it's natural wealth and the beauty of the nature. Agriculture and hope.
National Bird-
(Doctor bird)- It has been said that the name was given because the erect black crest and tail resembles the top hat and long tail coat doctors used to wear in the old days. Other schools of thought believes that it refers to the way of birds lance the flowers with their bills to extract nectar.
National sport-
Cricket is the national sport of Jamaica. Cricket in Jamaica is the vestige of British colonialism. In the past, cricket was considered a sport played by the elite, with the very British game first played in Jamaica by the upper classes.
National tree
- The blue Mahoe The Blue Mahoe is the national tree of Jamaica. It is
indigenous to the island and grows quite rapidly, often attaining 20m (66ft) or
more in height. In wetter districts it will grow in a wide range of elevations,
up to 1200m (4000 ft.) and is often used in reforestation.
The tree is quite attractive with its straight
trunk, broad green leaves and hibiscus-like flowers.National flower-
Lignum vitae- Lignum Vitae (Guiacum officinale) is indigenous
to Jamaica and was found here by Christopher Columbus. It is thought that the
name “Wood of Life” was then adopted because of its medicinal qualities.
In addition to shedding an attractive flower, the plant itself is extremely
ornamental.
